17 June, Sichuan China – Liang He Xiang Agilent Hope Primary School, financed by Agilent Technologies (China) Limited Company has come to its completion ceremony. Students from serveral village primary schools nearby are all now studying at this newly built and well equipped school. Huo Feng, CEO for Agilent Technologies China ,representatives from Agilent, China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF) and local government joined the ceremony with students of the school.

With all other village primary schools incorperated, Liang He Xiang Agilent Hope Primary School is the only primary school in Liang He Xiang, originally named Liang He Xiang Center Primary School. The school was seriously damaged in the “5．12 Wenchuan Earthquake”. The school was identified as dangerous by experts. The need for maintenance, demolition and reconstruction work was urgently called. Ailgent (China) decided to donate classrooms, residence and complex teaching building to the school after visiting with the representatives from CYDF in order to create a safe learning environment to children. 418 workers of Agilent (China) has joined this donation. In additional to the donation made by the company’s headquarter, the donation is RMB750,000 in total.

“Thanks for Agilent, students can now go to school again.” Principal of Liang He Xiang Agilent Hope Primary school said. “I can now go to school having lessons and playing with my classmates. I love going to school,” Li Sa Sa, a primary 5 student of the school, said.

 

It is announced on the ceremony that another RMB 350,000 will be donated to the school for installation of science laboratories, computer rooms and other teaching materials. Volunteers from Agilent (China) had lunch with students in school. After lunch, they prepared 2 scientific experiments for students to enhance students’ knowledge and interest towards science. Students used the rocket cars they made in accordance to the Reaction Theory to conduct a racing competition. “I have to bring this rocket car to home so that I can play with my brothers,” one of the participants said.

 

 

Agilent Technologies Limited Company is a muti-cultural high technology international company which was previously Hewlett-Packard Development Company headquartered in the United States. Agilent has luanched “After-school Agilent” to provide children aged from 9-13 with free of charge extra-curricular scientific activities to enhance students’ knowledge and interest towards science. All the teaching materials involved are designed and provided. Workers in Agilent will be the voluntary teachers in the program.
