Beijing, August 22. Music transcends all boundaries, be it nationalities or races—a hundred children of migrant workers set foot on the most sought-after stage of National Center for the Performing Arts, joined by the Finland Raahe Youth Choir, presenting a great show that is the Project Hope BN Charity Concert.

The concert as well as an international exchange entitled “Education enlightens life; Arts enliven livings” was co-organized by the National Center for the Performing Arts, the China Youth Development Foundation and Beijing BN Vocational School—the first free vocational school for migrant workers’ children in the country.

The performing children are from the BNVS student choir. It is especially meaningful for the parents sitting in front of the stage, witnessing the growth of their children.

Since its establishment in 2005, the BNVS provide free vocational education and employment opportunity to the migrant workers’ children. The graduates are all employed and as a result improved the financial status and living environment of their families. It is believed that children from poor families are entitled to the best vocational education, therefore not only their practical skills are valued, but also their all-around development. As music is a recognized approach to shape a decent person, the choir is considered one of the many lessons composing BNVS’s arts curriculum.

The Raahe Youth Choir, who performed with the BNVS Choir, is a choir well-known in Finland. It has been to many countries—visiting and performing—since 1976. The Finnish choir members wish to know more about the rapidly rising China and the youth here through this visit. And they did, as this performance brought together Chinese and Finnish youth on the same stage, building understanding and lasting friendships. Nokia sponsored Raahe Youth Choir with their trip to China, and a 1.5 million RMB donation to the BNVS, helping the school to set up curriculum on mobile communication related skills.

Apart from the migrant workers who rarely have chances to appreciate artistic performances in theaters, there were also Japan and Singapore ambassadors to China, and volunteers from all fields that share the same social responsibility among the audiences. These groups are connected through this charity bond they share, and they all contributed a bread or a brick to the growth of charity.

After the performance, CYDF Secretary General Mr. Tu Meng gave a speech, praising the creation of music—a language that knows no boundary, bridging the gap between ordinary languages. Mr. Pauli, the Director of the Raahe Youth Choir expressed his appreciation towards BNVS for its commitment to charitable actions. He revealed that his grandmother was uneducated all her life and left the world with regret; now that he saw what the BNVS does and was amazed by the power of education—changing people's life for the better.
