To date, the Coca-Cola company has contributed more than $4 million (U.S.) to China’s Project Hope, a nonprofit program that provides education for children in underdeveloped parts of China. The Coca-Cola company has supported the construction of 56 primary schools in China, and donated books to more than 100 libraries for underprivileged students in rural areas.
Timeline:
1997: “University Aid” launched. Program provides funds for financially disadvantaged students to attend universities.
1999: “First Generation University Scholarship Program” launched. Program grants scholarships to rural students who are the first of their villages to attend university.
2000: “Green Project hope” launched. Project works to plant one million trees and five deep-water irrigation wells on the outskirts of Beijing.
2001: “E-learning for life” launched. Project seeks to provide e-learning centers equipped with educational materials to schools in rural China.
2002: Coca-Cola China sponsored 140 Project Hope School graduates to continue their studies. 100 rural students were also sponsored to continue high school.
2003: Coca-cola Company received an honorary “Mother River” Award from the Chinese government. This award acknowledges the Company’s contribution in the area of environmental protection and awareness raising in China.
